Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about our products, services, and practices

Is your honey really raw and unfiltered?+
Absolutely! Our honey is never heated above hive temperature (about 95°F) and we use a simple gravity straining method that removes only large wax particles while preserving all the natural pollen, enzymes, and beneficial compounds. You might notice our honey crystallizes faster than processed honey — that's actually a sign of quality!
Do you ship your products?+
Yes, we ship honey, candles, and gift sets anywhere in the continental United States. Orders over $75 qualify for free shipping. All orders are processed within 1-2 business days and shipped in eco-friendly, recyclable packaging.
How do I get started with a hive installation?+
Great question! We start with a free on-site consultation where we assess your property for hive placement — considering sun exposure, wind protection, water access, and flight paths. From there, we'll recommend the right setup and colony size. The full installation typically takes 2-3 hours, and we'll stay to make sure everything is perfect.
What's included in your beekeeping workshops?+
Our workshops include both classroom learning and hands-on hive time (weather permitting). You'll learn hive anatomy, bee biology, seasonal management, pest control, and honey extraction. Each participant receives a take-home starter guide and a jar of our honey. Protective gear is provided — just wear long pants and closed-toe shoes!
When is the best time to start a beehive?+
Spring (April through early June) is ideal for starting new hives in Vermont. This gives your colony plenty of time to build up strength and honey stores before winter. We start taking installation bookings in February for the upcoming spring season.
Do you offer local delivery?+
Yes! We offer free local delivery within 25 miles of our farm in Shelburne, Vermont every Saturday. You'll find us at the Burlington Farmers Market every Saturday from May through October, and at the Shelburne Farmers Market on Wednesdays during the summer months.
What should I do if I find a honeybee swarm on my property?+
Don't panic and please don't spray them! A swarming colony is actually very docile — they're focused on finding a new home, not defending one. Call us immediately at (802) 555-0147 and we'll dispatch our swarm removal team. We can usually respond within 2-4 hours. We'll safely capture and relocate the colony to one of our apiaries.
